Week 12 Blog#10: The Personalization of Learning

The aim of personalised learning is that learning can be tailored to the needs, abilities and interests of particular students. This can be supported and extended by interactive and multimedia technologies, but is ultimately more effective under the supervision of the teacher. Here are the five core elements of personalized learning:

  • Flexible Content and Tools: A wide variety of content and learning tool options that are both adaptable and responsive to student needs are included in the learning design.
  • Integrated Digital Content: allows for a different learning pathway and pace for each learner.
  • Targeted Instruction: aligns to specific student needs and learning goals. The focus is on small group and one to one conferencing.
  • Student Reflection and Ownership: Ongoing student reflection promotes ownership of learning. Create opportunities for choice in learning.
  • Data Driven Decisions: Frequent data collection informs instructional decisions and groupings. Develop a culture of openness toward the use of data and feedback.
Using Technology to Support Personalization Learning| YouTube

During this week and last week, I learned that artificial intelligence (AI) is a technology that can be very helpful in personalizing learning. AI is increasingly being used as a means of creating personalized learning experiences by developing individual learning paths (sometimes called adaptive learning) based on user responses.

In addition, I tried using an AI tool – Magic Sketchpad, an AI tool from the Google team’s artificial intelligence experiments. The platform would respond to my doodles by setting categories and recognizing each line I drew to complete the drawing. Here is my doodle create by Magic Sketchpad:
